Summer Academy 1

MUSIKČ ACADEMY AT DURHAM

The Mission of the Musike Academy
The Musike Academy is the concept of world famous musician Jean Bernard Pommier. Pommier believes that the search for interpretive truth and the preservation of absolute values, which have been the hallmarks of great artists, are of paramount importance - now more than ever when they are threatened by media and commercial pressures.

The Musike Academy cherishes these values by nurturing young professionals through the practical education of association in both learning and performing experiences with established artists of world stature who share these ideals.

Musike carries this out on the world stage in various ways. Currently it promotes a series of master classes and concerts in Durham each summer, a chamber orchestra in France (in which "seniors" and "juniors" perform together), and a series of concerts in Budapest. Promotions in other countries are under investigation. In addition, a number of international artists are associated with Musike in performances all over the world.

MUSIKČ SUMMER ACADEMY 2009.

For 2009, faculty members will work solely with a specially selected string quartet . This is a major change of the style of Musikč for at least this year and thus for the present there will no longer be any formal application process. The new arrangements are intended to allow a small number of students each year to develop their professional profiles and to support the early stages of their respective careers.

It is felt that this is now the best way to make optimum use of the limited time and resources available to Musike's annual British residential course, both in terms of the efficacy of teaching and the varied outcomes for participants.

Dates for Durham 2009
23rd- 30th August 2009. Concerts will be on 26th & 29th August.

The City of Durham.
Durham is a World Heritage Site. The classes and concerts take place in and around the famous Romanesque cathedral and mediaeval castle. /Student accommodation is at St Chad's College opposite the cathedral. All venues and the town centre are within easy walking distance. This is a very special ambiance for both professors and students alike.
